Trombone and Euphonium Lessons

Lessons with Jim will take the up-and-coming low brass player to the next level in performance and musicianship. Jim’s students range from beginners to advanced level, ages 11 to 65, on tenor trombone, bass trombone, and euphonium (baritone horn). Jim teaches at his home studio in Aspen Hill, MD, where students have the advantage of his extensive library of low brass materials, and parents have a comfortable waiting room with TV, WiFi, and Buffy the cat.

Music Arrangements

Jim’s arrangements are played by the ‘President’s Own’ Marine Band, groups from the Army and Air Force, and many local dance bands, including his own band Fresh Air. Jim’s charts are meticulously written, well laid out, and easy to read. He can create an original arrangement from scratch, or transcribe a favorite recording for your group’s instrumentation and key. Or see if there’s already a chart in his library of jazz, classical, and popular music for jazz groups, dance bands, vocal groups, brass trios, quartets, and quintets, string trios and quartets.

Professional Trombonist

Jim is known throughout Washington DC and Baltimore as the consummate professional trombone player for dance bands, jazz groups, classical brass ensembles and orchestras. His many years of experience and his versatility make him a first-call choice for many contractors in the area. As a bandleader himself, Jim is the ultimate sideman, arriving early, dressed appropriately, and well-prepared to sight-read and play any music put in front of him.

Thank you for being such a wonderful, inspiring teacher. My daughter has improved tremendously and absolutely loves playing trombone!

I have played Jim Templin's arrangements for more than 20 years. They have always been well written and easy to read…and, best of all...they sound GREAT!
